Project Description

Organisation delivering project

Run4Life (Bristol City Council Sport & Physical Activity Team)

What is it?

Build physical activity into your weekly routine with our 4 week Walk to Jog course. We have one weekly group session where you get to meet others to join your journey with the support and guidance of our qualified Run Leader. They will get you walking for up to 30 minutes and introduce a few mobility exercises and stretches and encourage you to try some short jog sections, starting with 15 seconds. We encourage you to repeat this twice before the next session. Over the 4 weeks, slowly building up these jog sections and doing your homework imbetween we will take you to trying 30, 45 and 60 second jogs.

Once you have established this three times a week habit, if you are interested we encourage you to join Part 1 of our beginners course: Zero to 35, where again you will keep with 3 activity sessions a week slowly building up the amount you can jog for, achieving 8 minutes of jogging – twice, by the end of the course. If you now have the bug then you are welcome to star Part 2 which will take you all the way to 35 minutes of running over the next 6 weeks.

Who is it for?

Can you walk for 30 minutes but would like to build a routine, to meet others, to get fitter, have some fun and achieve goals you never thought you could? Have you not exercised since school, but would like to start now? Activities are for anyone aged 13 plus, so feel free to bring your son or daughter with you!

What will I do?

You will join a group who will start with a walking warm-up followed by some mobility exercises to improve how you move, then there will be a 15 minute walking section where you will introduce short gentle jogs, this is followed by some slower walking and some stretching. We will provide you with a schedule, so that you can go out twice more during the week and try out the session. Sometimes people arrange to meet up with others in the group to try these sessions. We have a Facebook group that we encourage you to join for support and to answer questions you might have.

How much is it?

Our courses are Free.

How long will it last?

On the 4-week Walk to Jog course session last between 40 and 60 minutes.
