Project Description

Organisation delivering project

The Park Centre

What is it?

Staying Steady is a programme of strength and balance classes to help build strength, walk steadily and lower your risk of falling.

Who is it for?

A Staying Steady class could help you if you’re feeling unsteady when moving around, are worried about falling or are less mobile than you’d like to be. Before you can join your first class you will be invited to attend an assessment with the instructor.

What will I do?

Classes are led by instructors who will adapt exercises to suit you, so that you can exercise safely with support from experts. You’ll be taken through exercises that can be done either seated or standing.  During the class you might be using equipment such as bands, balls and hoops, which are provided. At the end of the class you’ll be given some information about exercises to do at home. Watch a short film of a class and participants.

How much is it?

£3.50 per class, pay as you go.

How long will it last?

Each class lasts one hour.

What will I achieve from being part of the project?

The classes can help you:

  • stay independent and carry on doing the things you enjoy
  • improve your confidence and reduce the fear of falling
  • to be mobile and healthy
  • keep active and have fun

What happens after the project?

The programme is not time limited so you can join when you choose (after your assessment has taken place) and come for as long as you like and while you are benefitting.

Where can I find out more?

You can find out more on Bristol City Council’s Staying steady page where you can watch s short film of a class and download a leaflet. The providers details can also be found here so you can contact them directly for more information and to book your pre joining assessment.

Phone 0117 377 2255

What do I need to bring?

Comfortable and loose clothing and bring some water to keep you hydrated.

Is this a group activity or individual activity?

It’s a group class but the instructors will adapt the exercises to suit you. People are also welcome to stay for a cup of tea and a chat after a class, where you can learn more about organisations and activities in your area that can help you stay active and independent.
