The Role of Sport and Physical Activity in Modern Society – a Tool for Transformational Change
Wednesday 6th December 2017, 8:45am to 5pm
In celebration of Bristol’s year as a European City of Sport, you are invited to attend a full day, interactive conference that will feature a range of strategic and inspirational speakers sharing their expertise on how sport and physical activity can play a role in reducing health inequalities and improving the life chances of communities.
Whether you are involved as an active participant, through volunteering, as spectators or through training, education or employment, sport and active recreation can contribute towards achieving many social outcomes and also have a major impact on the local economy.
Speakers include the following international sports stars:
- James Cracknell (Olympic gold medallist)
- Pat Lam (Bristol Rugby’s head coach)
- Chrissie Wellington (Global Head of Health and Wellbeing for parkrun and four-time Ironman Triathlon World Champion).
The day will also feature representatives from Sport England, English Federation for Disability Sport and Badminton England who will be giving talks on what benefits sports and physical activity can have on modern day society.
There will also be a chance to get involved through a series of workshops designed to start conversations around what sport and physical activity can offer for cities and businesses, how you can attract large scale sporting events to your area and sharing ideas about how sports can be made more accessible.
Book by 13th November to receive the ‘Early Bird’ discount offer. This is a ticketed event and anyone thinking of attending is encouraged to book early to avoid disappointment.
